The Taiwanese city of Taipei had a two-pronged approach to its 750 sq. m. UBPA pavilion, focusing on its wireless city and its promotion of recycling. The wireless city theme explored the city’s intelligent wireless network, which lets people complete many day-to-day tasks via the Internet, saving time and resources. At the same time, one of Taipei’s most-cherished urban targets was the complete recycling of resources and ‘zero burial of garbage’ by 2010. Speaking at the pavilion, the mayor of Shanghai himself remarked, “environmental protection, together with traffic and housing issues, are problems that challenge big cities such as Taipei and Shanghai in the modern world. We should share our experiences and join hands to face the challenges together”.
